The likelihood of a U.S. or Israeli military attack on Iran is considerable, even though American intelligence agencies now agree that there is no nuclear weapons program in Iran. The threat of war remains real until comprehensive negotiations between the U.S. and Iran begin and gain momentum. Any attack on Iran would have catastrophic consequences for Iran in the region and would dwarf the ongoing tragedy in Iraq with massive medical and public health consequences. It would drastically reduce security on all sides for generations to come. There would be no winners, only devastation.
Canadians Against War has joined as an endorsing member of Iranians for Peace, an international coalition of organizations opposing a military attack on Iran. We believe that a unified and broad-based opposition to the war can discourage the military option. Through public forums and lectures we plan to educate others on the key issues that have led up to this US war drive against Iran and while enouraging alternative to the military option in which a peaceful dimplomatic solution can be acheived. As an organization that is antiwar we believe:
• The US should offer immediate negotiations with Iran without any preconditions
• Put Iran's Nuclear Program in the Context of a WMD-Free middle east
• Incorporate the public health and medical consequences into the decision making process
• To priortorize the development of a peaceful and diplomatic means in which current and future conflicts between the US and Iran can be resolved
